    Cobalt

Cobalt Ontario was a smashing success! People from all over the greater Cobalt area streamed in to see the show for a sold out (or at least close enough for us) show.

But, as usual the real magic happened before any of the audience even arrived. The Cobalt Classic Theatre sets itself apart from all other theatres by having a drum kit in the lobby.  Well, Mike (who loves to hit things) just couldn’t help himself.

459997832And no, that isn’t a crappy photo. Mike plays the drums so fast that he actually becomes a fuzzy blur.  Then came dinner. It came in a big pot that Chris very kindly brought in from the car it arrived in.

    459997960 What a helpful boy!

459998088And of course there was dessert. A lovely assortment of squares with what looked like chocolate chip cookies but actually had Rolo candies in them! Delightful!

It was our third time at the Classic Theatre and we look forward to returning again soon.

Up next, Oliver, BC, which is very, very, very far away. But with all the calories we’ve stored up we should be able to make it.

    Kirkland Lake

After a lovely ten hour drive we arrived at Kirkland Lake. This was our second time playing there, the first time in… in… well, it was a while ago. After a delightful meal at Mama’s, where the portions are big enough to choke a yak, we went back to the theatre at the college. As we went down the stairs this is what we saw:

    .

Yes, two giant barbeques in front of a piano.  We assumed this was part of some course at the college–perhaps an interdisciplinary exercise between the music and cooking faculties.  Anyway, we were sad that we hadn’t brought any raw meat with us.  We usually pack raw pork in the bass case.

We made it safely to the dressing room, where Chris shaved. “I wonder what that looks like?” you ask. Well, wonder no more. Here is Chris shaving in glorious colour..

The show went well, and there was even a member of the  audience who enjoyed shouting things out, although we never could figure out exactly what he was saying as he seemed to lack the ability to form consonants.

    Next stop, Cobalt!

    Return to Kingston

We were back in Kingston for a show at the newly(ish) renovated Grand Theatre in Kingston, Ontario. Kingston is the birthplace of the Worms so we were very excited to be back to the land of our youth. Not only that, but the Grand is also the first place Trevor ever sang in public (as a Policeman in The Pirates of Penzance) and also where Mike once played Husband #3 in Lil’ Abner. So, yes, there is history in the place.

Official Grand Opening of New Website!

As of today all traffic from arrogant-worms.com is being directed to arrogantworms.com. (If you failed to notice a difference, there’s a dash in the middle of the first one.) We liked our old site but it was getting a little static as we weren’t very good at remembering to tell our website managing dude to put up new stuff.  But now the site is in our own hands… which is a little scary. At the moment our internet skills are sketchy at best, and we’re still getting our heads around such new-fangled things as Facebook and Twitter, but we are trying very, very hard.  (“Good effort!” as I used to hear in school.)  And to think,  I’d just gotten the hang of  the fax machine.

    Monster With Rainbow

The Shelter Valley Folk Festival has asked performers who have played there to create a piece of art for a silent auction in November.  The task fell to Trevor who’s artistic skills peaked in kindergarten, but he has bravely pressed on and created the following work: (more…)

    Ottawa Folk Fest

We just came back from the Ottawa folk festival where we had a lovely time.  Our first workshop was entitled “harmony singing” where we were seated beside a super-good bluegrass group called The Breakmen.  Things took a little while to get going, however, as there were more musicians than equipment.  Here’s a picture of  Mike, Chris, and lap steel player Burke Carroll (who, by the way, has played on both Beige and Toast) trying to figure out what to do.  They were like that for ten minutes. Invading Ohio and Pennsylvania

We’ve recenly completed a quick jaunt into the USofA which was as successful as we could have hoped for.

It took us a while to get through the border.  We don’t know why… they’re really not into chit-chat there.  We were just glad that we no longer had to wait while looking at a picture of Dick Cheney… it always felt like his eyes were watching you like the pictures in Scooby-Doo.
